So today I was thinking that I don't really know anything about plants and their life cycles... I see remember that various types of gasses are responsible for various types of chemical signals.

Anyways, it's integral to the success of a deep space mission to have been able to augment the telomerase equivalent in plants to be able to provide food for deep space missions over time... I always think one has to take into account the fact that the primary producers have to be able to fix nitrogen, or have some other metabolic pathway aside from using radiant energy. Yet, as more time has gone by, I've realized that regardless of the metabolic pathway, the most important element to successfully maintaining life from earth will the the longevity of the food source.
