-every time the cell divides one sequence is lost; thus a limit on cell replication or "Hayflick limit"
-the enzyme, Telomerase, can overcome the limit, already found in cancer or germ line cells which are immortal
-animal experiments show some cancer increases, however, and there is current difficulty administering Telomerase enzyme into cell nuclei
-once overcome, however, the enzyme can immoratalize ALL human cells
