syfy here on earth and not in space

Has anyone noticed that the line between magic and technology is starting to blur? At the singularity summit, the speakers explained that magic and technology are becoming the same thing, and the the contemporary breakthroughs will most likely be visible here on earth before humans begin to venture into outer space.

I have noticed this trend in popular culture, with entertainment focusing a lot more on fantasies instead of science fiction being relegated to space, and things cosmic.

Dollhouse is a hot new show to which I'm already rather attached. Taking place post-singularity, most of the technology explored in the show deals with digital consciousness. Techno enthusiasts are able to upload and download human memories, thoughts, and emotions into computers with a subsequent cut and paste, only to make new personalities and hence consciousnesses each time. These newly made synthetic consciousnesses are imprinted into "dolls" humans who have had their entire brain "wiped clean" where they hover in a child like, half conscious half unconscious state of suspended animation until their services are required.

It's very interesting to see the media picking up on such fantastical yet real themes in entertainment. Just in going to the movies lately, and seeing the direction that science fiction is going, the biggest obvious difference is that these movies and tv shows are taking place on earth instead of outer space. Perhaps it's because so much about space is still unknown, that it became such a dominant theme since Star Trek's inception in the 60s. Yet, interestingly enough, now that so much is known, and what's not possible is all becoming possible in front of everyone's minds, science fiction on earth is not only science fact, but now it's just... drama.

d.c.

A few days ago I was lamenting the fact that I can't upload my brain, sp I guess I just have to keep spitting out thoughts on my website, it's the only way I can get my thoughts out there and have it last.

Pretty soon me and Solitaire are going to make some predictions for the future- long detailed logs will soon be up. If Nostradamus can make predictions, so can we.

Anyways, I'm having problems sleeping right now. As far as my health goes I have a few sleep disorders- I grind my teeth really bad at nigh- it's a problem!

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bruxism/DS00337
Definition
Bruxism is the medical term for grinding, gnashing or clenching your teeth. The condition affects both children and adults.

Some people with bruxism unconsciously clench their teeth together during the day, often when they feel anxious or tense. This is different from tooth grinding or clenching that occurs at night, which is called sleep bruxism. Most children who are bruxers do so at night, while adults are either daytime or nighttime bruxers.

Bruxism may be mild and may not even require treatment. However, it can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems. Unfortunately, people with sleep bruxism usually aren't aware of the habit, so they aren't diagnosed with the condition until complications occur. That's why it's important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care.

Also, I have bad dreams several times a week, and I wake up totally soaking in sweat on a more than regular basis :/
It's so nasty! I wish these problems would disappear.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/night-sweats/AN01042
Answer
Night sweats are usually defined as episodes of significant nighttime sweating that soaks your bed clothes or bedding. This is a fairly common problem that many people experience from time to time.

Although uncomfortable, nighttime sweating typically isn't a sign of a serious underlying medical condition. It may be triggered by something as simple as too warm a room or too many blankets on the bed. Potential medical causes of night sweats include:

Menopause
Anxiety
Medications such as certain high blood pressure drugs, over-the-counter fever reducers and antipsychotics
Drug or alcohol abuse
Gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD)
Diabetes
See your doctor if night sweats occur on a regular basis and interrupt your sleep. Treatment is directed at the underlying cause, if it can be determined. Occasionally, night sweats are a symptom of a serious condition, such as cancer or infection. But in such cases, night sweats are often accompanied by other signs and symptoms, such as fever and unexplained weight loss.

In thinking of possible solutions, I'm led to meditating? It's the one thing I've never tried.

I own this bed, I bought it on bedinabox.com- I can not stress how amazing and how cheap this company is. I have nothing but good things to say.

my sleeping health

I missed David Sedaris in SF today! I wish I could have gone.

times
they are a changin. I still have my big elaborate schemes for myself. In fact, I have about 4 or 5. A taste:

cure HIV via genomic medicine (although the concept of "cure" will have to be redefined"
genetically engineer a suer hardy super virulent disease caused by a bacteria or virus (or fungus)
nitrogen balance for long term deep space flights
start a biotech firm called GoodnessGenomics specializing in tissue regeneration, with an emphasis on radical life extension
genetically engineer a lichen to produce a false atmosphere on Mars
genetically engineer microorganisms with multiple metbolic pathways, research immortal germ cell lines, stem cell technology, etc. ---> potentially introduce choloplasts into animal cells for life on other planets
basically, a bunch of schemes involving less sunlight than what life on earth has evolved to be dependent on (this sentence is not grammatically correct, I'm high right now)
I have so many more ideas. I want to help people. But really, I just want everyone's money, and I feel like people should just give it to me bc I'm the only one smart enough to make you live forever.

I'm torn between focusing on just getting into space vs, the science involved with sustaining life in an artificial atmosphere for long periods of time (forever?)

uploading

SO,

As sum1 who is really into being part of the singularity community,
I've been ready this whole time to upload my
brain/consciousness/whatever to the Internet. Or just upload it to
whatthefuckever, it doesn't even have to be on the Internet (I'm easy
to please).

It's obviously time. I think this sort of stuff should have been done
a long time ago. I want to be the first! I wouldn't care if I died in
the process and it was a total and complete failure, if I just got the
chance to be the first. There's nothing more important than the first,
the first is forever immortalized in his(or her)story.

Being first is always v. important to me. If I'm not going to be the
first or the best, then I won't even try to compete (inferiority
complex).

Why do I want to do this?

With a digital consciousness, I would "live forever" just no longer in
the material world. I guess I would have no way of knowing if it was
me or not, I wonder if I would continue to "experience" my same "life"
in that "other form" of "reality."

The pros seem to outweigh the cons overwhelmingly. I would be
accessible to everyone, or maybe I could even become a virus,
infecting all government computers, simultaneously shutting them all
down at one single point in time.

Would a digital consciousness suddenly make me the most powerful
person to ever exist? To me, it seems like I would be akin to the
wizard of oz, in many respects, I would be able to manifest whatever I
want in cyberspace and in the digital landscape that is becoming ever
more clear? Is that really a way to turn nothing into something?

We have already evolved and progressed so much yet we still remain
trapped in the past. Our delusions, lies, hatred, de-evolution,
selfishness, and vices will be incomprehensible to a human from 100
years in the future. Everywhere I go I already see neanderthals
everywhere (they're already in charge of the government), it makes
sense that the future generations will be more evolved anyways.

I mean, that is basically the only reason I blog, I'm trying to get as
much of my brain uploaded as possible. I want to touch and be the
impossible, my delusions of grandeur only become larger and more
delusional the older I get. If I die today in a car crash or a drug
overdose, my shit will still be around, and don't say I didn't warn
you...

internet

One of things I appreciate most about the internet, is the "digital landscape it paints." On one hand, it's real? No wait, it's not real. This leads to the question- Where does everything we put on the internet even go? Is it saved in random (government) computers? Was it ever really tangible at all, maybe only in our minds. Basically, the internet is the future, I think becoming e-famous is SMART(dotcom). Who says only actors and actresses should be in the media, those people are a joke; from a scientific standpoint they do nothing more than entertain people. Everyone goes on the internet, it's now stupid to pretend otherwise. VH1 already has entire television programs devoted to random shit on the internet. What I love most is that I'm in total and compete control as to what I do, say(type), and/or put on the internet (the contributions I make to the digital landscape).

I love how I could deleted this in a second if I felt like it. I can disclose as little or as much as I feel like, or don't feel like. I can "spy" on other people (not like I do that, but I could if I wanted to) which is something I appreciate. The internet gives me the power of infinite connection. All of a sudden, a human being from anywhere on earth can go on dgoodness.blogspot.com and read everything I'm typing. It's comforting, it feels powerful. With this, I feel as though I'm given a grave responsibility to speak only the truth, and I always do, because truth = beauty, and the truth is good. The internet teaches us about whatever we want it to, I think I'm going to make it my slave. The internet can be used to learn through diffusion, also, it can spread messages slowly, over time (the increasing diffusion of information age). I love living in the information age, although I would rather live in the age of space travel. In a lot of ways I feel like I can do whatever I want, I'm so grateful to have a medium through which I can express myself so easily and simply.

I often think about dead people's myspaces- omg they're still around! Some people have already been on myspace for years (I'm using myspace as an example, substitute whichever social networking website you want, it matters not). In such cases, there's no way one can deny that myspace has both shaped and determined those people's life experience. Whatever one puts on the internet basically exists for ever (with some stipulations) and I've always loved the record of history the internet already provides. I often wonder about how social networking will evolve, as well as which websites will hit 50 years, and will that even be a big deal? Am I taking the internet too seriously? In a lot of ways, I feel like it's the best invention ever, but I'm sure many people would counter with many different arguments. And maybe it won't even be the best invention in the world for too much longer. I'm all too ready to have a direct internet connection implanted in my brain, or uploading my consciousness (or whatever). The internet only serves to facilitate my vision.

I use the internet as my ongoing open letter to the world from myself.

Top 7 Characteristics Of "Digital" Consciousness

Top 7 Characteristics Of "Digital" Consciousness
By James Ward

Business owners and marketers need to realize that the single largest change in human consciousness is currently taking place right now. The discovery of using "tools" and the discovery of printing pale in significance alongside the changes happening to human consciousness right now. These include:

1. We are witnessing the end of the analogue consciousness -- starting at the "beginning" and going to the "end" no longer makes sense. Printed books, paper-based letters, audio and video tapes are on the way out. They are not "clickable."

2. Key words and key phrases embedded within human consciousness will be more important than ideas, values, perceptions and beliefs -- particularly so in terms of sales and marketing activities.

3. Instant gratification will be the number one motivator for human interaction and activity.

4. Human consciousness will be shared more than ever before in history -- we are entering the era of one-world-mind -- the global mind is now replacing the global village. Ideas will spread with viral speed or spontaneously ignite worldwide and burn out just as quickly.

5. Information will be valued more for the way it is presented than for it worth by any other standard.

6. Authority on all levels will be meaningless. The authority of the "mouse" will be absolute.

7. Human consciousness will move towards the goal of being cojoined with computer consciousness as a matter of course.

These changes are having and will have monumental changes in every aspect of human life and will change our civilization more than any other thing has done in human history. Their impact on doing business and on selling and marketing will continue to be profound.

matrix 3

weird things I noticed:

Neo = one
"2 ships, 2 different directions"
Trinity

Choice/Good/Equation/Truth/Love/Peace- obvious juxtapositions of terms sending message?
new dichotomy of machine assimilating man
Oracle = software?
Digital Consciousness
"Singularity gone wrong"
Zion(ism)?

I just think the matrix is interesting (and perhaps deep), that's all I'm saying. One of the brothers is a tranny now! The first movie they made was BOUND, one of my favorite movies of all time.
